Platform Workers Act

(PW Act)

A New Law to Protect Platform Workers

From 1 January 2025, the Platform Workers Act will strengthen protection for platform workers in Singapore. This law empowers Platform Worker Associations (PWAs) to represent workers like you. It focuses on increased wages through CPF contributions to improve housing and retirement savings, financial support for work-related injuries, and fair representation to safeguard your rights. These changes reflect NTUC’s ongoing commitment to enhancing workers’ welfare.

How the Platform Workers Act Benefits You

The Act addresses key challenges faced by platform workers:

CPF Contributions

Help you increase real wages and save for housing, healthcare, and retirement.

Work Injury Protection

Ensures financial support for medical bills and lost income.

Stronger Representation

Gives you the backing to resolve issues like pay and working conditions.

This is a significant step forward for platform workers, creating better protections, stronger rights, and a more secure livelihood for the future.

NTUC’s Commitment to Platform Workers

NTUC has been supporting platform workers for over a decade, starting with taxi drivers even before the formation of the National Taxi Association (NTA) in 2010. Since then, NTUC has expanded its efforts through the National Private Hire Vehicles Association (NPHVA) in 2016 and the National Delivery Champions Association (NDCA) in 2020 to represent private hire drivers and freelance delivery riders. This long-standing commitment shows NTUC’s dedication to addressing the evolving needs of platform workers.

The implementation of the Platform Workers Act is a win for platform workers and a significant milestone in NTUC’s continuous efforts to improve livelihoods and ensure better protections.
